Mental health advice
50
I will talk with you for 1 hour through Skype or Hangouts (voice only) about your concerns and give you advice on what approaches you can take. This can range from trying to better understand yourself, types of self help techniques, professional services options, resources to study, and much more.
You can engage with me with just one session, just to ask a question. Is your behavior within normal ranges? How can you get started working on yourself? Do you need a therapist? A psychiatrist? Medication? Do you want advice on how you can help yourself without professional services? Did something confusing happen that you just want to talk out? Whatever your questions, lets talk.
You can engage with me repeatedly to continue to steadily work on yourself. We can work on your interpersonal relationships. Figuring out how to be less reactive. Figuring out how to be more motivated. Whichever sort of plan that would require trial and error to improve upon, we can keep talking about it and work on it together.
My approach to mental health is psychodynamic in origin. The goal is to explore into the caverns of self and find what is there. Shed some light into the hidden corners and to clean out some muck. My theory is that once you understand and map out your inner labyrinthine that serenity comes effortlessly afterwards.
Discussions will be trying to discover *why* something happens. This can touch on sensitive areas. I do my best to be gentle and guide you to approach these sensitive areas as painlessly as possible.
Although my primary approach is psychodynamic in origin, I may give advice on mindfullness-based practices when they could help you achieve your goals. I tend to shy away from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but I do know some CBT tools that can be useful to help overcome obstacles.
Training & Qualifications
I have spent an enormous amount of energy on my mental health and learning psychology for over 15 years. I believe I have done exceptionally well figuring all this out and have become quite stable as a result. Lets see if my experiences can help you, too!
I have started writing a book, "Managing Your Chronic Depression", because I feel what I have learned from my experiences could be quite helpful to others. I have spent an uncountable amount of hours on forums giving advice and participating in long discussions on psychological theory. And, of course, I have been helping my friends with their self help goals, working with psychiatry, and gently coaxing those who are struggling.
I have a lot of experience doing consulting work and training for clients on a wide variety of subjects. Therefore, I will come prepared to structure our appointments to maximize their productiveness, and set realistic expectations.
Note that I have extremely little experience doing consulting over the phone, as well as consulting in my current state of health. My simbi pricing is reflecting this inexperience. I hope that we can work together where I can help you as best I can while you are also helping me figure out how I can be a productive member of society given the drastic health changes I have experienced.
Availability & Preferences
I'm not available on Wednesdays or Thursdays. I prefer afternoons (which is evening for you East Coast folks), but am quite flexible.
Unfortunately, I have a debilitating chronic illness that can make me unreliable. I might not be able to answer a message from you right away, and there is a possibility I may have to cancel our appointment at the last minute and reschedule with you. It could be frustrating -- I could be energetically working with you for weeks and then BAM! I'm sick for a week or two. But, I give you my promise, YOU will be my priority and I will do my damned best to fulfill your requests. It just might be a little... slow.
