Parkour Basics Lesson
40
I will teach you parkour exercises and techniques in a way that even the clumsiest beginner can participate.
You may have seen parkour videos where daredevils perform completely inaccessible stunts, big drops, gigantic diving vaults--we won't be doing that here. Instead, I find a beauty and poetry in the movement of parkour, one that explores the dynamic range of the human body, that explores our relationship with the environment around us, that empowers us to dissipate the illusions of weakness that manipulate us in the world.
These lessons will be low impact, low risk, and follow a careful progression. It will be physically challenging and require you to move and exert effort in ways you probably haven't tried before. We'll crawl a lot, and we'll jump a little bit.
Training & Qualifications
I am a seasoned parkour practitioner--we call ourselves traceurs. I've been doing parkour for over a decade, and have seen the community in the US and internationally grow. When I started, coaching wasn't an option, and we learned it all by ourselves and with the help of others who were exploring. So, from the beginning, I've focused on how to make parkour accessible, interesting, and fun.
I've performed for events, videos, photography, and other projects, but I'm more proud of having taught parkour classes professionally since 2008. Although it isn't my profession any longer, throughout that journey, I visited parkour coaching communities around the world, and attained a Level 2 parkour coaching certification in London from Parkour Generations.
Availability & Preferences
I prefer weeknights in the East Bay if possible. We'll probably have to coordinate a little bit to figure out a time to meet.
