Year-in-Review Photo Slideshow

50

50 per hour - Virtual OK

Did you know? Most people have 1-3 years worth of images stored on their cell phone camera. Some photos end up on social media, but most are trapped in limbo, with no one to notice or appreciate them.

Your photos are a visual time capsule of your life, and unseen photos are just about the saddest thing, right up there with unburned candles and unread books. I can create digital scrapbook of your photos that you can share and appreciate now with family and friends via YouTube, social media, or email. Photo slideshows make great personalized gifts, and they won't disappear into the ether the next time your computer or smartphone dies. A Year-in-Review slideshow is a fun replacement for the traditional birthday card - it can be enjoyed endlessly, and won't get lost, tossed, or tattered.

Send me your photos, or provide Google/Dropbox access, and I can create your special occasion or Year-in-Review slideshow. You provide ~30 photos per minute of slideshow length, so 120 photos for a slideshow with a 4-minute song. You tell me the music you love, and I'll choose something that fits the mood of the slideshow - sarcastic, funny/silly, sweet, nostalgic, celebratory, educational...

I edit your photos (crop, adjust color, contrast, focus, brightness, composition) then sequence them and add music, captions/titles, and dates. I send you the finished product as a digital file. Depending on slideshow length and the extent of photo editing. creating a slideshow takes ~3 hours.

Training & Qualifications

I've been an avid photographer since I got my first old-school camera at 8y.o. At a handful of colleges and art schools, I studied photography, B&W darkroom, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, art, and photo hand-painting. Initially, this was a way to document family genealogy, history, and events big and small - births, road trips, holidays, destination weddings, pets, milestone birthdays, new baby. But I came to realize that I love to help others uncover and tell their stories.

I know how to create a photo that tells a story, and how to sequence photos to tell a narrative. I combine photos, music, time-lapse animation, and found footage to tell your story, and provide you with an easy-to-share format.

For me, art is mostly about paying attention, and being the middle kid in a huge family helped me develop a perceptive and intuitive approach, to pay equal attention to subtle little things as much as milestones and big things. I find beauty and humor in ordinary experiences...stories written in kindergarten, making jam/sugar cookies, funny faces, gardening, building a snowman or sandcastle or tree fort, working a puzzle, going to the zoo. There's always a beautiful and visual story to tell in your photos, and I can help you find it.

Availability & Preferences

Pretty flexible, but limited to 2 slideshow projects at a time. After initial consultation and upon receipt of all your images, I can often complete a slideshow project within 10 days and 3 hours of my time.

Trading Preference: I’m flexible, just hit me up!

About Shue LaRue

Life's a great teacher - if you're curious, exploratory, and attentive, you can learn constantly. Have you heard that the 5 people surrounding you are an amazing indicator of your success? I truly... believe it. I grew up in an enormous, scientific, do-it-yourself family. We didn't have a TV in the house, and at the time, this simultaneously embarrassed and pissed me off. But we DID have books, music, National Geographic, stories, experiments, physical competitions, and countless negotiations. Think "Captain Fantastic" in a town of 3200 people - yup, we were those weirdos! Honestly, lack of dolla bills was a great motivator for all of us - we learned how to be resourceful and proactive. We may have started out with paper routes and lemonade stands, but we went on to become high powered engineers and world travelers. We crafted aromatherapy products, candles and jewelry. We started our own companies, jury-rigged our POS cars, developed gluten free recipes, and entertained ourselves with a crappy 8mm camera we picked up at a garage sale. (And FYI, this was waaaay before YouTube was even an idea.) Bottom line: if we wanted it, we figured out how to make it or trade it. Once you have been initiated into this informal economy, it's kinda hard to to go back to the regular way of doing things. When everyone has a specialty, bartering becomes a practical, efficient strategy, and makes great business sense. Bartering gives us all the opportunity to consult with the experts, and negotiate the exact thing you're looking for, rather than making do with a product or service that was packaged for the masses. I'm a photographer, a writer, a music lover, a creator of compilations, silly songs and videos, a yogi, a chef, a feng shui-er, a reflexologist, traveler, and professional brainstormer. I love to dive into something new, iron out the bugs, then pass onto others what worked for me. And I love to learn from others who are passionate experts in some field or skill that I don't have. Have I mentioned that bartering rocks?!show more
