Emotional Support
35
I've always been told I should be a therapist. Because of my personal history and my listening skills, I have the ability to completely focus on another's story without giving aid. Alternatively, if advisement is desired I give legitimate sound advice. While I do this gently, if requested I do tell the truth as opposed to simply stating what will make the client feel righteous like so many therapists do. Sessions can be conducted in various formats from friendly conversation and venting, to art therapy, to a more formal approach.
Training & Qualifications
With a mother who worked in sexual and domestic violence for years, and personal experience with trauma, abuse, mental health issues, chronic illness, disability, poverty etc, I can empathize. Also, as an individual who completed all the required courses for a Masters in Education, I have a base knowledge of psychology. While all conversations are confidential and can follow guidelines of traditional sessions, I must put in the disclaimer that I am not a licensed therapist.
