Let's Talk Sustainable Construction
10
I will chat with you on Simbi about sustainable construction for 20 minutes per session.
I can help you with:
- Figuring out where to build your new home or outbuilding
- Figuring out what method to use when building
- Answering specific questions and concerns about sustainable building methods
- Getting an intro to alternative and sustainable building methods
- Learning about straw bale construction
I have a more than moderate amount of construction knowledge. My dad was a carpenter and so was his dad. I have built many things growing up on a farm and also working for my uncle's residential construction company. I have researched different types of alternative building methods including earth bag, straw bale, adobe and earth-bermed homes.
I cannot create house plans, give detailed building instructions or any type of professional approval. However, I can offer advice from personal experience and research, and discuss concepts and questions you may have about your design.
Training & Qualifications
From 2017 to 2021 I designed and built a passive home for me and my family that is insulated with stacked bales of wheat straw (see photos). In my past profession as a CAD draftsman, I took LEED courses and many others on sustainable design. I understand sustainable design from an architectural, mechanical, and electrical perspective.
