“Change Work can be described as the use of language and communication, verbal and non-verbal, to direct attention, lead cognition and seed ideas, for the purpose of altering a persons perception of reality.”
- Justin Bustamante USMC Veteran & Change Worker
Imagine that your 5 year old runs into your bedroom screaming… “Mommy, Daddy… there’s a monster under the bed!”
Now as a parent you know that there really is NO MONSTER… just your child with a very vivid imagination.
So what do you do? Do you say…
“There is NO MONSTER, it's just your imagination BUT let me show you how to take THE MONSTER OUT in case it hurts you?”
NOT THE IDEAL RESPONSE. If you start showing your child how to get rid of ‘the monster’ so that it doesn’t harm them, you are simply reinforcing the notion that this ‘monster’ is somehow real or poses a threat to them.
Many NLP’ers and Coaches (metaphorically speaking) end up doing this exact thing.
A client comes in and says, “How do I get rid of these phobic thoughts? These depressive issues? This catastrophic thinking?”
The Coach might show them how to “think positive” or “place these “BAD THOUGHTS” into a balloon and have them float away.”
Or the NLP practitioner might show people how to make their thoughts, “black and white… smaller… move them off into the distance…”
BUT do you have to say to your 5 year old who’s scared of the monster… “there is no monster… but let me show you how to make it black and white and send it off into a balloon so it can’t hurt you.” OF COURSE NOT.
So what if there was a different way?
The unique fusion of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, conversational hypnosis, thought experiments and stories to help people penetrate the illusions that are behind their unnecessary suffering.
Something holding you back?
Anxiety, fear, stopping smoking, weight loss, trouble sleeping, worried about flying, maybe something else entirely?
Let’s see if we can work together.
