Bipolar Medication Consult

40

40 per session - Virtual OK

Psychiatrists and neurologists today do not always have the time or access to the latest research to keep up with the developments in the field of psychiatric medication. At the same time doctors are flooded with marketing material from pharmaceutical reps. As a result clients don't get the best pharmacological treatment and end up with a combination of drugs that interact in ways that actually make their mental health condition much worse. In addition, many psychiatric drugs actually cause a withdrawal phenomenon that can be debilitating if even a single dose is missed.

I will analyze your medication regimen and help you understand in detail how your psychiatric medications influence, mood, attention, sleep, perception and dependence/addiction. I will help you understand their biological mechanism of action and how they induce lasting changes in brain activity. I will make recommendations to optimize your medication regimen and if possible eliminate or titrate them if they are making your mental health worse. All discussion are completely confidential.

I accepted a deal with Don to consult with my younger daughter after hearing from my older daughter about a Skype consultation she had with him. Inst...ead he sent her a request for a resume of past events and did not have said Skype conversation. I feel that the email that he sent her next was generic and not at all useful and I also feel that he y have recommended a dangerous medication according to research that my daughter showed me. I did feel concerned . When I approached him asking him to talk to her in person on Skype he became offended and microaggressive. I can not recommend this person. I am sceptical and feel let down by this experience. I feel that he also insinuated that he will be sending her a bill. I hope that is not the case since he still has not had direct verbal consultation with her. This has not been a positive experience. show more

About Don Cooper

As a tenured Professor in Neuroscience and my experience teaching Neuropharmacology to residents in the Psychiatry Department at UTSW medical center it became clear that this service was needed. In g...eneral US doctors do not spend time updating their knowledge-base of the mechanism of action, side effects and drug/genetics interactions. In fact, much of their information/education comes from the pharmaceutical companies that market to them and their patients. Often times drug are requested by the patients themselves and most Psychiatrists comply with patient requests. Consequently, the wrong drugs at the wrong doses are prescribed without a full consideration of the patient's unique genetic background and history. My goal has been to help educate people about how the brain processes information. I received my Ph.D at Chicago Medical School in 2000. I did a 4 year postdoctoral fellowship in Neurophysiology at Northwestern University. I spent 4 years as an Assistant Professor at UTSW medical center in the Psychiatry Department. I received Tenure as an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2011. I have been researching Neurophysiology/Neuropharmacologist for over 20 years specializing in memory and attentional systems and how they are influenced by dopamine neurotransmission. I have been awarded ~ 2 Million in NIH grants as principal investigator. Bill and Melinda Gates Grand Challenge Explorations Awardee ~ 1 Million. Young Investigator award from National Association for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). ~45 publications in top journals Cell, Science, Nature Neuroscience. I am founder of Mobile Assay Inc www.mobileassay.com to use mobile devices as analytical instruments for health and agriculture pathogen diagnosis. My diagnostics company is operating in over 15 countries working with the CDC and national programs to fight disease. show more
