A haiku written just for you
5
I'll write one fresh, new, straight-from-my-head haiku poem just for you, in one of two styles (see below), on a topic of your choosing. You can choose a general topic (nature, the beach, dogs, etc.), a specific one (like your mom's birthday, your first car, your anniversary, or your favorite park), or even provide a paragraph of details and images for me to work with, whatever you like!
Let me know which of these two styles of haiku you prefer:
• 5-7-5 •
The style many of us learn about in school, where the poem is structured using a strict number of syllables.
Example:
little black cat meows
from up atop the TV
yellow eyes staring
• Traditional spirit of haiku style •
A three-line poem with a looser syllabic structure, based on more complex traditional Japanese ideas of haiku-writing. In essence, this style of haiku focuses on the contrast between two images, and the space between them.
Example:
tiny sigh
from atop the fridge
then a purr
