Small Space Compost Help
I have been composting for a few years using a dual-bucket system on my balcony. No worms needed!
This method does stop cooking when the weather gets too cold (unless you move it inside), but you can keep adding to it until the bucket is full even in the cold, and then it will heat back up come spring. When my bucket is totally full and it's too cold outside, I keep container(s) in my freezer for any kitchen scraps to wait until warmer weather to start a new batch (I'll explain more if you request the service!).
I am an apartment dweller with limited space, and this method works great for me. You can compost all sorts of things in it, like unglossy paper and cardboard, matchsticks, tissues, hair from hairbrushes, ashes from the fireplace, and washer/dryer lint from any washes that are natural fibers - not just your food scraps!
You can either ask me for a how-to of my method, or ask me about any problems you've had trying to set yours up that you've already tried.
