Intermediate Sign Language Lesson

20

20 per session - Virtual OK - Posted Mar 04, 2017

For those who are past the level of instruction I would deem Basic Concepts and Conversations, and are ready for some more in depth discussions as to the linguistics and Real World Usage of Sign Language. This will include (but not be limited to) some discussion of American Sign Language -vs- Signed Exact English -vs- Pidgin Signed English, and their prevalence in the Deaf community. (20S Price is for 1 hour lesson)

Training & Qualifications

I have recently graduated from Madonna University (Livonia, MI) with my BA in Sign Language Interpreting Studies, and I am soon to take my certification test for the state to become a full time interpreter.

Trading Preference: I’m flexible, just hit me up!

Bill is super knowledgeable and is very flexible and willing to tailor our introductory lesson to our profession and personal goals. My partner and I ... really enjoyed receiving his service for ASL lessons and definitely plan on reaching out to him again for help on our language learning journey. I enjoyed learning not only some first few signs, but about the history and etymology as well. It's fascinating info, that we don't get much of as hearing people, this was amazing!show more

Really kind and thoughtful guy! He explained to me all about the roots and history of ASL as well as its context in the broader family of sign languag...es. The conversation was an eye-opening experience, I'd recommend anyone else with a passing interest in languages, accessibility, or if you're just curious and uninformed about the deaf community and sign language, to talk with Bill.show more

About Bill Kemerer

I have a bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting Studies that I completed at the tender young age of 36 (late bloomer I guess). I am practicing in multiple ways right now, to prepare myself f...or the national certification exam. To wit: I currently work full time as an interpreter and part time as a direct service provider for developmentally disabled adults, who also happen to be Deaf. This way I can keep my connections to the Deaf community, while I am getting good real world practice, and also waiting for governmental/organizational red tape and testing requirements. Otherwise, I am a country boy moved to the suburbs. So I am the only person on my street who cuts his own firewood instead of buying it. I love being outdoors and working with my hands. I am not a true handyman, as I am not real great at a lot of handyman things, like drywall in particular, but I do have experience in many many types of household maintenance and upkeep... So there are a lot of things I can do.show more
