Dance Practice Partner

25

25 for fulfilling my request - - Posted May 24, 2017

I've been taking West Coast Swing dance lessons since February of 2017 and I would really like to find a practice partner - close to home - that I could meet with once a week for about 30 minutes (or longer) to practice outside of class.

No experience? See my offer to teach the basics.

Age doesn't matter.
This is strictly about the dance. I'm an "old guy"; retired. If you are between 20 and 80 and can move - that's all I'm asking for.
I am single, but this is not about "dating / relationships" - it's about continuing to improve my dance.

I could present a ton of info here, but it might be easier - if you have any questions - to simply ask.

I don't like to drive so I'm paying Simbi currency - asking for a partner to be willing to drive a (hopefully) short distance to meet me in my geographical area (not my home):

Old Thornton / Northglenn
- North and South - between 104th and 84th
- East and West - between Colorado blvd and Huron

I live near Washington and Thornton Pkwy - so the closer to that - the better.

I don't go out much, so I don't know what local venues have dance floors (I have some ideas), but we can "think outside the box" - any space or area with a flat surface would probably do - inside or outside (a park?). Being retired, I'm generally available between 9am and 9pm - 7 days a week.

Music: I like most, including contemporary. Music source: if there is none - I will have a blue tooth speaker and music loaded on my phone.

What is West Coast Swing?
This video - to me - captures the essence of West Coast Swing (and why I like it so much):

Still not sure? Here is a West Coast Swing sampler:

So?
Shall we dance?

About Wilbur Klick

I'm a retired guy; in my early 70s. Some of my current hobbies / pursuits are: photography; photo editing; graphic design; yoga; fitness; West Coast Swing; aikido and general handyman kinds of p...rojects. Simbi says I need to write more: My oh my - time flies - I just did a little math and it looks as though I've been in Colorado a little over 30 years. I've been a vagabond thru much of my life - since childhood; around the country and abroad; moved to Boulder from Santa Fe; lived in Boulder and Louisville for a year or two and then moved to the Denver metro area. I'm an agnostic - experimented with different beliefs; never committed to any; pretty secular, but I like new-age and metaphysical because I think magic and mystery is important. Or, as Ken Kesey put it: "I'm for mystery, not interpretive answers. … The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer, but they think they have. So they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer." I guess, not to put too much emphasis on it, I was on a sort of "spirit quest" for - to varying degrees - most of my younger life and into my 50s. I don't think I ever really "arrived". I've had to take time off, from time to time, to pay more attention to to things like food and shelter. Now, I suppose I'm approaching the possibility of putting myself back on the path . Joseph Campbell used to say "Follow your bliss". He wrote The Heroes Journey and The Power of Myth; among others. Campbell talked about heroes, warriors and journeys (influenced Lucas and the creation of Star Wars). Another book that influenced me in my thirties was The Way of the Peaceful Warrior (Dan Millman). You may see a picture forming - a timid explorer on a "journey"; moving from one path to the next, stumbling toward the top of the mountain; stopping, sometimes for years, sheltering in huts and caves along the way. This has been a solitary journey. I am still "timid" in some ways; still "in the dark" in some ways. Maybe if I had another 50 years, I'd make it to the top of that mountain, but - and this is probably kind of important - it's really about the journey - "being" on the path. I'm not "intelligent" by any conventional definition. I'm a shy introvert. "If You Meet The Buddha On The Road, Kill Him" - an old saying probably adapted from a zen koan. My road has been rocky and littered with dead ends and false profits. Blah-blah, blah-blah . . . blah-blah. Everyone - has their own path. Somebody much wiser than I once wrote: You put your whole self in You take your whole self out You put your whole self in And you shake it all about You do the hokey pokey And you turn yourself around That's what it's all about links: Joseph Campbell http://billmoyers.com/content/ep-1-joseph-campbell-and-the-power-of-myth-the-hero%E2%80%99s-adventure-audio/ Dan Millman speaks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mgq5cb3YS0 What is? Can we get "Closer to Truth"? I want "answers" and "mystery" - I want it all. https://www.closertotruth.com/ show more
