Wine #2
Producer: Tenuta dell'Ornellaia
Name: "Masseto"
Designation: IGT Toscana
Geographic Location: Bolgheri (Tuscan coastline reminiscent of Bordeaux terroir; made famous by San Guido's famous "Sassicaia")
Grape(s): 100% Merlot
The 1998 vintage was quite exceptional in parts of Tuscany, but often it was overlooked by the much lauded 1997 Brunello. Regardless of vintage, Masseto and Flaccianello are consistently the among the top Tuscan wines. 18 years of age have passed have softened their aggressive tannins. Big fruit notes expected from Masseto, whereas Flaccianello's Sangiovese will be much softer and elegant. Both wines balanced by hints of vanilla and baking spices from French oak.
Château Pétrus is among the most expensive wines in the world. It's also arguably the most counterfeited. France's most lauded Merlot wine hails from Pomerol, located on Bordeaux's right bank of Pomerol. Asia's insatiable appetite for Pétrus and all things Bordeaux have led to Masseto's popularity exploding over the last few years.
There will also be some prepared small plates to pair with these sought-after wines. Carnivore friendly and gluten free/vegan option will be available. Whether you are an eco-devastating Wagyu aficionado or a henna & harem pants wearing yogi; I got your solid food and wine pairing covered!
