My first adventure in entrepreneurship was selling Mexican candies to my classmates from my “convenience” ...store (otherwise known as my locker.) Did I buy the candies from 7-11? Nope, I went to Mexico. When I tell people I sold peepholes door to door on a 100 degree Texas summer, they naturally think I was a sales rep. Nope, I carried a toolbelt and a rolling suitcase. I measured, hammered, and sealed every peephole on every door that summer. I’ve sold a house online, built a teleprompter from scratch, and river rafted down the royal gorge. People ask me: “Wow, Lauren, you’re so hands on - you love people so much. Isn’t it hard to do what you do sitting behind a computer screen?” It’s just the opposite. Creating a remarkable online experience means knowing your value so deeply that you’re able to make it come alive through a computer screen. This requires hands on learning. It requires vulnerability. It means breaking down the barriers of time and space to reach out and connect in a meaningful way. Your online presence doesn’t replace your in-person customer experience...it IS your customer experience. When people meet you online, they expect greatness. They expect thoughtfulness. They expect to be guided in a way that solves their most important problems. My passion for creating remarkable online experiences is much like that of an animator...for business. I like to think that I make things come “alive” online. Ask yourself this: Does the “why” of what you sell evoke such an emotion from your audience that he/she can’t imagine working with anyone else?
