Virtual Buddy Read

20

20 per package - Virtual OK

Do you want to read more books, but lack the motivation to actually do so? Do you like to talk about the books you read, but find yourself alone in your literary pursuits?

Pending a discussion over *what* to read, I'll be your virtual book buddy! If you have a specific book in mind, you can ping me to see if it's something I'm interested in, and we can negotiate from there. If you just want to read more, we can chat about favorite genres and authors and decide on a book together. Or, heck, maybe you want to jump in on a book I'm currently reading or have just read!

I'm a native English speaker, but I'm also fluent in Swedish and read a couple of books a year in French as well. I'm willing to tackle a book in any of these languages for people who want a foreign language study buddy.

Once we decide on the book, we can decide on where we'll discuss the book and how often. Once a week via Simbi messages? At the end of the month in a Discord server? Emails after every chapter?

Things I usually enjoy reading include:
*Classics/literary fiction
*Science fiction
*Fantasy
*Popular science
*Popular history
*Mysteries
*Memoirs
*Biography
*the occasional young adult

Genres I tend to avoid (sorry, you'll have to find another book buddy!):
*Horror
*Thriller
*Romance
*Western
*Anything you've published yourself (if you want my feedback on something, that's a different Simbi offer :P )

I'm a stubborn-ass book completionist and I can promise you that I'll finish whatever book we decide on, even if it takes me a while. But if we're both disappointed in the selection, we can mutually agree to tap out and try again with a different book. :)

Training & Qualifications

I read around 48 books a year, give or take, in three different languages. I'm a member of three different book clubs and read across a variety of genres. I spend a lot of time thinking and talking about books in addition to reading!

About Katherine Koba

Everything I enjoy comes down to words, details, and helping and educating others. In my work life, I'm a professional Swedish -> English translator. I work with corporate documents: everything fr...om annual and interim reports to internal memos to press releases. I was a freelance copyeditor and ESL tutor before that. Before that I spent two years teaching English at cram schools in South Korea, and before THAT I was a cave tour guide. In my fun life, I co-organize a local writing Meetup, translate semi-obscure Swedish women writers into English, and read a lot. I also work on my own writing projects, which tend to be character-driven SF/F and literary novels. I'm a bit of a language nerd, too; I study Russian and Korean in my spare time, and try to keep up my high school German and college French. I also like to surprise people with postcards and tea and other fun things in the mail!show more
