Chat with Grad About Your Fiction
35
I will discuss elements of your creative writing. You tell me what you are struggling with in your writing— be it plot, characterization, or even minor details— and I will share examples of what I have encountered about your topic and help you get it down in your writing. For example, if you are struggling with character description, I will discuss with you the different ways characterization of appearance can be done without your writing becoming heavy-handed. I would locate various examples of our discussion topic before we chat and work with you to figure out what might be the best way to approach the issue you are having with your manuscript.
Additionally, I would be willing to read and help you revise small section of your manuscript regarding the topic we are working on. For example, if we are working on details, I will give you 10 minutes or so to revise a small section of your manuscript with a focus on adding relevant and effective details so that we can make it a great reader experience.
Don't be shy— I have seen many undergraduate and beginner level writing, and I won't laugh at your work. I've seen just about everything and it's never as bad as you think it is. :)
Training & Qualifications
I will have my Master's Degree in English with a focus on creative writing in May. My master's thesis is a videogame script adapted from my unpublished novel. I have read a library's worth of books, and have been in workshops, conferences, and coffee shops to learn about the craft of fiction writing (and writing in general).
I have been a writing tutor for 2 years, and I have taught an English 1002 level class that focuses on writing an argument.
I have also been writing fiction for over 10 years. I am working on getting published, but I have not climbed that hill yet.
