Sewing
I can sew but I'm a better blacksmith.
I have several projects for someone with sewing machine or needle and thread that range in levels of complexity. The bulk of my need is for simple medieval and colonial (American) "working man's garb" for myself and an apprentice when we do demonstrations at historic events.
I am not looking for all the things I've listed at the end all at once: I put the lists there to open negotiations. If interested select what you might like to try and we can work things out piece by piece. I know what sewing is worth and it's often undervalued and underpaid. I'm not looking for a "steal", I'm looking for an exchange of skills with a peer.
That said, if you're uncertain about your ability that doesn't rule you out. The simplest of work shirts is simply connected rectangles, for instance. I am willing to wear "less than perfect" and will still barter fairly being very willing to give you the opportunity to challenge yourself and develop your skill: you'll get all the constructive criticism you like and a fair deal for your effort.
If you're more accomplished there are more complex things in period and some contemporary things I'd like as well.
I'm negotiable. Ideally you would take care of fabric acquisition and construction in exchange for the ironwork you want and consideration for any significant difference in postage. But other combinations are certainly workable.
A list of things I'm looking for in terms of historic clothing:
+shirts -- linen preferred , cotton works, there's a fairly simple pattern that will do.
+pants, breeches, trews -- wool, linen or cotton, depending
+doublet, waistcoat
+hunting smock
+bonnet -- as in the hat worn by Scots
+cloak -- wool, hooded
Modern wear:
+have an idea for a kind of denim patchwork short cloak or cape with hood with a wool lining for fall into winter wear
+Love vests -- natural fibers and "artsy" are nice
+Have an old tweed sport coat that was my father's back when and I would love to turn it into a vest/waistcoat in some fashion (I'm too big for it as it is, but it might be enough to be converted).
+boiled wool jacket or tunic
Let me know what you think. I'm open to all levels of skill and can provide images of my ironwork and such to help your imagination for the thing(s) you'd like in exchange.
