45-Minute Get Started With Linux
10
Thinking of cutting that cord and switching to Linux? Enticed by the idea of free (like as in beer AND speech)? Go for it!
Linux can seem intimidating at first, but I bet you didn't know everything about Windows the first time you sat down at a brand new IBM computer (maybe I'm dating myself here a bit?). Take the plunge, and let me help you learn the ropes. I can get you up and running with most user-friendly Linux distributions within 45 minutes. You'll be using the system in no time to do the tasks you do every day but without having to pay hard earned money just to be able to perform them in the first place.
I highly recommend users starting with the following Linux distributions; however, if you are unsure of which one you would like to try don't hesitate to shoot me a message. I'll be more than happy to help you pick the right one for you before we even agree on a session :) No use wasting valuable hands-on time evaluating distros ;) Plus, once you catch the bug I guarantee you'll see why this is fun for us Linux geeks!
Recommended Systems:
Ubuntu, Elementary OS, Linux Mint, Fedora (if you're brave)
Training & Qualifications
I am a licensed Apple OSX Support Technician as well as a Linux user since 2006. I am sitting for my Linux Professional Institute Certification in May 2017 so I can use all the practice I can get setting people up and teaching them about Linux. I'm also a hobbyist systems administrator as I run various web servers, media servers, etc for friends and family.
Availability & Preferences
I work from home so I am typically capable of working around others schedules as long as you don't mind me bringing my mobile phone and laptop in case there is a work related emergency. They are rare, but they can happen.
