Education on DCD/Dyspraxia
20
Developmental coordination disorder, also known as dyspraxia, is a little known neurodevelopmental disorder related to autism. It is often considered a spectrum disorder. It is widely misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or undiagnosed, especially in women. As a suffer of dyspraxia, I have first hand experience of the many complicated symptoms this affliction brings and the effect it can have on someone's life. It is often considered a pediatric disease as it is typically diagnosed in children. Who would benefit the most to be educated on dyspraxia? Truly, everyone. But some outstanding examples may be a teacher with dyspraxic students, someone who thinks they suffer from a disorder but don't know what it is, etc. Although I am not a professional or psychiatrist, I can describe some of the ways to help identify dyspraxics, the treatments that are often used to help, and other methods of coping. Do you or someone you know often suffer from poor coordination, struggle with direction, handwriting, and other physical tasks? Come talk to me!
