Intro to Guitar + Music Theory
60
Teaching the very basics including correct positioning, chords, and basic strumming.
What to expect: not everything may be covered in this 30 minutes, and note that everyone learns at different rates. For complete beginners, I can do a short introduction on notes and chords, and then get in to guitar positioning. For my faster learners, I can go ahead and start teaching chords and strumming patterns. For my super fast learners, I can start teaching more advanced techniques such as palm muting and hammering. Lol don't worry about this terminology yet XD
I can also give basic music theory advice for starting musicians, including some mnemonics for reading notes in music staff. There are two ways to teach guitar or any other music instrument. I learned both music by ear and by note. Most students I teach prefer the former because it eliminates having to learn notation and can eventually help you play spontaneously. However, it may be more difficult a skill to acquire quickly. By note is the traditional way to teach, but it does require some music theory to be introduced.
Training & Qualifications
Have had 4 years of guitar experience, on and off. I do some finger style (still working on it doe), and can strum to most chords. I was taught by my dad and grandfather, and in fact, I belong to a very musically oriented family. I studied piano for over 15 years and violin for 10 years. I composed music for full orchestra and have taught lessons for the instruments I have listed over my years in order to help myself gain a deeper understanding.
Availability & Preferences
It is variable, since there is a lot of school work.
