Death and Canvas
50
Yup. It said Death and Canvas. It's my personal approach to bring the conversation of death to life in a positive and creative way - painting!
I have selected objects that are symbolic of the need to discuss death and discuss each before painting them. I don't model and have the group replicate like most canvas paining events. Rather, I give some ideas on how to paint in a few styles and let them decide their own colors and style. It isn't about creating a piece of art that looks like the rest, it is about learning about topics related to end-of-life with a meaningful piece of art that participants take home. As they dry, we discuss the experience and answer questions. It allows individuals to be able to have something to help them begin the conversations as they talk about the painting. But it is more than that. Many groups and individuals have encouraged individuals to have the end of life discussions, but there are very few who offer a way to start it without starting somberly. Yes, death can be scary and it's normal not to want to have the conversation.
Through the painting experience, I provide a friendly and open atmosphere to bring the need to talk about advance planning out in the open. The paintings themselves continue to be an access point to talk. I also have additional materials available to provide assistance with the next steps.
It's more fun than you'd imagine.
Price will vary based on the number of people and if I need to provide materials and/or snacks.
