I am a Veterinary Surgical Nursing assistant with 16 years of experience in the field of Veterinary technology.
I never pursued certification in veterinary technology. Growing up, I had always been unwaveringly certain that I was destined for fame as a Broadway theater actor or world class artist.
My career began when I took what I believed to be a fun temporary summer job as a kennel attendant at a local Animal Hospital. The Doctor that owned the practice felt that I had demonstrated natural talents and skill when called upon to aid the medical staff. She asked me to stay on after the season ended to see how I felt in a position as a veterinary assistant and encouraged me to consider a career in the field.
As it happened, I did remarkably well and discovered that I was able to perform the duties with considerable success.
I also had come to the harsh realization that my singing voice is distinctly similar to that of a distressed llama and that there's a very good reason that artists are known to be starving. That's how my career began. I have since developed a deeply held passion for my work and simply can't imagine spending my time in any other field.
I spent my first 10 years working in general practice at a large multi service hospital that included a large boarding facility.
During my time there I gained valuable experience with administrative management. I was responsible for hiring, training and coaching new seasonal employees and also developed very successful team building techniques.
After that I worked at a smaller feline-only clinic for the next 6 years and gained additional experience with marketing, social media management and organizing public events.
Presently I work in a very large multispecialty 24 hour hospital as a Surgical Nursing Assistant but my newest interest is in writing.
The have had a wide variety of pets throughout my life and due to my profession, many with complicated health issues that I've learned special techniques to help manage with greater success.
