Self Sufficient Homesteading

50

50 per session - Virtual OK - Posted Mar 26, 2017

I will show you or tell you how we live our lives as self sufficient homesteaders in exchange for goods or services. You can come camp on our land and learn how to take care of the earth and how the earth takes care of you.
We do not have power or water on our land. We haul water from the creek (and buy drinking water at the store) and we have a generator for short uses at night. We use lanterns and fire most of the time.
We also dig latrines, or use thunder pots.
We've learned that cold showers feel a lot better in the summer 😄
Eventually we want to start a commune of like minded people.
Requirements to come and stay on our land:
You must be willing to bring your skills to the table. Doing nothing is not an option. You must be willing to help us build and improve on our land. You can build yourself a structure to live in, but it stays on our land and is ours, when you leave. Gardening, renewable energy, outhouses, sturdy living structures, water sources, etc.
This lifestyle isn't meant for everyone, and that's okay. But we absolutely love our serene paradise and if you chose to take part in it, we're sure you will too.

I've had SO many responses of people asking if they could donate or how to help. I didn't have any information and only asked for advise. Then someone suggested that I set up a fundraiser! I have done so.

About Megan Hopper

Hello! My name is Megan and my husband is Cain. We met in 2012 and have been like fire and gasoline since! (Lots of sparks, haha 😉) He is a world traveler and has lived out of the country multiple tim...es. His biggest dream has always been to retire young and live self sufficiently. He turned me on to the idea and they are just starting to blossom! We got married in October of 2016 and have since been working towards our goals of self sufficient homesteading. In March of 2017 we put out our 12x28 cabin on our land and have been living self sufficiently since. We do not have a power or water source except a generator that gets used about 2 hours per day, oil lamps and a spring that we can fill water buckets with. We shower with a hose that runs from the creek and eventually want to get a gravity feed system worked out for inside solar showers! We cook over fire and a gas two burner stove. Our goal now is to have solar power, water wheels and build Adirondacks. Eventually we want to build a hostel that groups of travelers can stay in and enjoy our property in. For now, we have tent sites that people can camp at and enjoy in exchange for building Adirondacks, or small cabins, or helping us get ours all snazzied up! We don't want to rent our units for money, we want to trade stays in them for goods and services and work on our land and homes. We want to meet like-minded individuals and couples that share in the desire to live off the grid. Our dream is to have a big community courtyard where everyone staying with us can gather together and enjoy good times! I've had SO many responses of people asking if they could donate or how to help. I didn't have any information and only asked for advise. Then someone suggested that I set up a fundraiser! I have done so. If you'd like to donate to our cause, go to gofundme.com/living-self-sufficientlyshow more
