Most store bought axes come with a convex grind and a dull edge, which not only causes poor performance but also make them somewhat dangerous, allowing the blade to glance off the tree/log instead of biting into it. What I will do is move the apex of the curvature closer to the toe (top) of the axe, moving it closer to the power curve, and also sharpening the edge so that even a $20 axe can cut like a champ.
Training & Qualifications
I have reprofiled several of my own axes/hatchets with great results, making them compare to my hand forged camp axe.
