About Malynnda Johnson

Skilled health communication educator, advocate, and promoter. Proven abilities integrating health promotion, research, and theories into strategic, interpersonal, and digital communication messages.... My research focuses on investigating the difficult conversations surrounding sex. Specifically, I am examining how medical providers motivate safer sex behaviors. Additionally my work examines both social and cultural factors associated with sexual health disparities. Since 2008, my work has primarily focused on HIV prevention and strategic interventions. I am experienced in conducting and overseeing research using both qualitative and quantitative methods as well as rhetorical criticism. Often I employ mixed methodology while researching social and mediated constructions of health. I have a diverse academic and professional background which includes teaching/mentoring a distinct range of ages, races, and economic backgrounds. I strive to become a leader in the community in the areas rhetorical leadership through health education, program planning and development, HIV counseling, and intervention evaluation. I am also a teacher committed to applied scholarship. I have proven experience engaging students both in online and face to face classroom formats. Integrating theory and application to every class I teach is of utmost importance. The breadth of my teaching experience allows me to be a generalist, however each course I teach is deeply influenced by the notions of health communication and media’s influence on our views of the world. I firmly believe that technology & the media play an enormous role in how we understand our own & others behaviors.
