I teach recorder in my general music classroom and some students really respond to it! The recorder is considered a "toy" instrument and it's just not fair- the recorder was an instrument before the US was a country! I would love to help your music student go above and beyond in their recorder music- they will be thrilled to go to school and show their music teacher. The recorder helps prepare students for many band instruments and helps them develop a sense of pitch, breath control, and musical style.
Training & Qualifications
I have a Bachelor's of Music in Education from Miami University and I'm going into my fourth year of teaching general music. Recorder is a standard part of my curriculum.
About Kristin Gooley
Hello! I am a music teacher and teacher mentor in the Bay Area of California. I am currently teaching PreK-3rd grade general music, but I have experience with PreK-8th grade general music and 6-12th... grade orchestra. I've been playing viola since I was in the fifth grade- more than 15 years now- and I am very confident playing and teaching all the orchestral string instruments. I also have a passion for music theory and experience with choir and band. I love mentoring new music teachers! I feel it's such an important part of a beginning teacher's career and helps prevent early burnout.show moreOpen to other proposals
