Ask a kidney donor
1
In 2013 I donated a kidney. I would love to share my experience with anyone curious about living or postmortem donation, or give tips to anyone about what helped me through recovery and what the process was like for my recipient. Organ donation is one of the most miraculous modern feats of medicine, and I'm a passionate supporter.
This service includes a conversation via phone, Skype, or via email or chat regarding what to expect pre-, during and post-op. Donation is often worse for the donor as you are going immediately from 100% kidney function to 50%, and though recovery time varies, I can give you some tips that helped me get through. My recipient is my uncle, so for us there were also some personal and psychological hurdles to get through, so I'd be happy to relay some of those struggles. No question is off the table.
Training & Qualifications
Three years post-nephrectomy with regular communication with my recipient. I have a background in medicine as well and can help explain basic kidney function and what happens when you go on dialysis if there's any confusion.
