About Hugh McGillivray

Hugh is a writer by habit, a keen observer of people, and a versatile analyst. A wearer of many hats, he brings a wealth of experience to his latest work. He has said of his favorite subject, psyc...hology, that it was the courses in literature, history, anthropology and statistics that were the most revealing about human behavior. He is also quick to suggest that one cannot truly "know" people, unless one has lived and worked with them directly. The learning is a complement to the experience, not the contrary. It is this depth that he brings to curating the local culture for Mu Magazine. Mu, the symbol of the Median, is about the middle 50%. It is a reflection, but one that implies mobility, a sensitive measure of what we are and what we can be. Mu Magazine reflects Lake Culture as it is found from The Shuswap to Kalamalka, from Fintry to Naramata, from Skaha to Osoyoos, and along the Columbia River. It is about the people who live here, their aspirations and their trials, their laughs and their criticisms, their play and their politics. Just as the lake reflects our horizons, so this magazine will reflect the people who live and work here. My job as the Editor is to find new ways to let that culture out, to express it and allow people to engage in it.show more
