Meeting New Friends When Traveling

I'm looking to meet new friends in South Carolina and North Carolina most of all. I travel a bit and nothing beats the advice of locals.. sure, you could read books and books.. but that takes more time than talking to people about what to see, do, or eat when you are discovering new cities. Locals also may know the hole in wall restaurants that are rockin' or odd attractions like an art exhibit off the beaten path.
Current places I'm trying to meet people in:
Greenville, SC
Spartanburg, SC
Columbia, SC
Charlotte, NC
In and around Asheville
Boone, NC <--looking to move there.. maybe.
Unicoi, TN
And if you visit Charleston, SC you can holler at me and we can grab coffee, check out art museum, etc.
