I'll give you in-depth, focused feedback on your story, poem, creative nonfiction, or other work, at 10 simbi/page. (We can negotiate exchanging services, or a different rate, if you have a longer piece!)
I'd love to meet with you in person or discuss your work on the phone, as I think a back-and-forth conversation is the easiest way to share ideas, but I'll also provide written notes for you, as I would for a peer in workshop or a student. I'm happy to adapt my approach to suit your needs.
Generally speaking, when I give feedback, my goal is to help the writer see how their piece is working rather than to "criticize" the piece. I tend to give feedback that looks at how the piece is working as a whole and examines thematic elements and the effects of language on the reader. But you should let me know what kind of feedback will be most helpful for you! I can also give more surface-level edits/suggestions if that's the stage you're at.
Training & Qualifications
I just received my MFA in poetry from Virginia Tech, where I also taught English composition and creative writing. I've also designed a curriculum and taught creative writing for a high school summer camp, and served as a reader for a print literary journal and the editor for an online journal. I'm probably most familiar with poetry - that's what I got my MFA in - but I've taken workshops in, written, and taught, fiction and CNF as well.
