Ask a former Jehovah's Witness
1
I am NOT an active member of the organization, however I can answer a lot of questions anyone may have about the religion, but may be too embarassed or doesn't want to get into a coversation with someone who will try to convert them. Such as:
Why is it called Jehovah's Witnesses?
Who is Jehovah?
Do JWs believe in Jesus?
What do JWs believe happens when you die?
Why don't JWs celebrate birthdays and holidays?
Why won't the JW at my school/work date me?
Why won't the JW at my school/work participate in my birthday/holiday party or at least have a slice of cake?
Are there a bunch of strict rules you have to follow as a JW?
Do you have to wear special underwear or garments like Mormons?
The JW at my school/work is kind of a jerk, is everyone like that?
Why do they bother me and knock on my door at 9:00 on Saturday morning?
Do they get paid to go door to door like Kirby vacuum salespeople?
Does someone tell you what to do? Who is in charge?
What is the JW position on LGBT issues or feminism?
Training & Qualifications
I was in the organization for 16 years as my parents both started learning about it when I was 4 and I stopped attending when I was 20 and moved away. My father was an elder for about 6 years, so he would talk about the new information he received from the governing body at the dinner table unless it was confidential.
