Mock Job Interview: Any Industry

50

50 per package - Virtual OK - Posted Apr 02, 2017

In exchange for your simbi or your time, I'll help you prepare for an upcoming job interview. I'll prepare a mock interview, connect with you on Skype to work through it, and provide you with feedback on your performance and any other impressions I have from the process. The best part is, you don't even have to wear a suit! (But please, wear a shirt.)

What I'll need from you:
- Your resume (it's okay if you'd like to change or remove company and university names for anonymity).
- The name and description of the position you're applying for. (Bonus if you can send me a link to a job posting.)

If your industry is moderately or highly specialized, I may have to ask you some prep questions before I can draft the interview so I can make it as tailored to your needs as possible.

Once I have the interview ready, you should expect to spend about an hour in Skype conducting the interview and breaking it down after we're finished.

Disclaimer: while I have interviewed for positions at every level in multiple industries, I have never interviewed a candidate for an executive position or a non-profit organization. If either of those describe the position you're looking for, I will do my level best, but I can't promise the mock interview will be as effective as it would otherwise be.

Training & Qualifications

For more than fifteen years, I hired candidates for positions from entry level to middle management in several industries. I was known among my colleagues for my creative approach to the interview process, and among my employees for asking some of the toughest (and, okay, strangest) questions they'd ever had to answer. I believe in tailoring an interview specifically, not only to the function of the job that's open, but also to the culture of the company and personality of the team the successful candidate will be joining.

Availability & Preferences

My availability is generally wide open. Our initial communication by Skype or email, when you send your resume and job description and I ask any prep questions I may have, can be done anytime. After the interview is ready, I'll get in touch and we can work out a mutually convenient time for a Skype session.

Trading Preference: I’m flexible, just hit me up!

I was intrigued by Simbi's barter model. Often, there are things I need more than money, and the idea of two people helping each other out greatly appeals to me.

About Dev Anthony

I've been all over the map with my experiences. I started, as most do, in retail, quickly working my way up to managing. From there I bounced to one of the most interesting call centers I've ever he...ard of - doctor's offices one minute, tow trucks the next, followed by selling novelties of an ... ahem ... adult nature. I spent a brief time doing debt collection, which I was only able to do because the company encouraged us to be nice to people rather than make them feel horrible for having no money. Finally, I ended up managing several different groups at an outsource company in the mortgage industry. My core group, which I built from the ground up, was involved with forensic auditing on the loans we handled. I quickly lost count of the other functions I headed, as it was a common practice to send underperforming functions to me for just long enough to get them back on track. In the years since I left that job (more on that in a minute), I've focused on writing, volunteering, and activism. Specifically, I volunteer as a crisis counselor (and webmaster, and trainer, and writer, and on and on) for a suicide prevention organization. I also work wherever possible to help educate others about and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. In 2011, I was forced to leave the workplace. I suffer from chronic migraines - I have for my entire life - and by that time they had escalated severely. After missing three months of work due to non-stop debilitating pain, I gave up the ghost. Things haven't improved much since, but I am at a point where I can be productive - just nowhere near enough to allow me to return to work. So, I volunteer when I can.show more
