About Charlotte Payne

I do academic research about things that make me laugh and cry. I've been doing this for a decade now, so I guess I have enough experience to offer anything to do with reading, writing, reviewing, ...editing, etc. I have some teaching experience too. And some basic stats knowledge - a lovely-but-far-from-perfect tool for trying to pick apart the complex patterns in the world - is also something I've picked up along the way. When I'm doing research, but also when I'm not, I love being outdoors, I love the way light completely changes how the world appears, and I love stories. So I can also offer local services like gardening, dogwalking, babysitting - but only if more people join near to where I live! And, of course, I'll very happily look at your art, and read and listen to your stories, and if you want it, I'll give you feedback. I like to meditate. I like being asked for directions. I like being asked to help with heavy lifting. I like foraging. I like being in forests. I like soil, mud, earth. I also like glitter, silk, bright colours. I like rough seas. I like experimenting with fermenting food and drink, and with making natural cosmetics. I like markets and fleamarkets and second-hand stores. I like running, I like walking, I like swimming, I like rowing. That's probably enough about me. Overall - life has been very, very kind to me, so I'm trying to pass some of that on! (Oh also I lived in Japan for four years, and I speak and read and write Japanese. I speak a bit of French too, but my French is really, really bad)show more
