Ask a Transgender Person!
I'm very nervous putting this up here, but given how amazing everyone on Simbi has been so far, I expect only good things.
Anyhow, I identify as transgender. I was assigned female at birth (AFAB) and I live as male. I have been out for 4+ years, I have had my legal gender changed, and I am heavily involved in LGBT groups and issues. I will answer any (respectful!) questions about my personal experience, or about terminology, or anecdotes, or about the trans community in general***. I can also help with research projects/papers about this subject if you'd like, but anything that's particularly extensive will take a while. I welcome people of all orientations and genders- I love to chat.
If I cannot answer your question, I will direct you to an online resource.
What you'd get:
1. Answers that aren't copy/pasted- I will answer them to the best of my ability personally!
2. A conversation partner, if you'd like.
3. 100% honesty.
4. Some new knowledge, hopefully?
5. Someone who is patient and won't bite your head off. I am prepared for questions that may be a little rude/ignorant.
Things I cannot answer/speak on:
1. What dose of hormones to take
2. How much transition costs (it's different for everyone)
3. What it feels like to be a trans woman
4. Not much else, but I will let you know if I cannot respond to something!
***Note that I can only generalize, and every individual who identifies as transgender will think and feel differently!
Training & Qualifications
Out as Trans, been involved with LGBT groups for many years, came out as queer at 14 and grew up knowing what being a queer teenager in the '00s was like. I co-run an LGBT group in Concord. I am certainly not new at this!
