Hi! My name is Alexandra. Call me Ali. I'm a twenty-two year old Chicagoan finishing up some schooling and wondering how adults make friends and create community outside of school, especially if they work as freelancers and therefor don't necessarily have a work community to latch onto.

Some interests:

Books! Besides reading books I also enjoy preparing them for publication (I work at a university press). Making sure things are properly punctuated is more satisfying to me than is probably reasonable. Chicago Manual of Style is my best friend. That being said, I'm also very excited by people who mess around with language in interesting ways and mold it to their own purposes. We did make this shit up after all. No need to hang on to grammar rules that don't serve us.

Bodywork! I've been practicing yoga on an off since high school and I'm a certified vinyasa instructor. I'm also finishing up a program in Zen Shiatsu, a Japanese style of bodywork that uses acupressure and is based on the same basic principle as as acupuncture, with roots in Chinese Medicine. Since most of my life is pretty intellectually oriented, I like filling the rest of it with a more intuitive, physical practice.

Busses! and other modes of transportation. I enjoy being in transit, I think because it makes me feel like I'm being productive (making moves), even though I'm just sitting. Planes, trains, and busses are some of my favorite places to be.
