Read Aloud for 30 Minutes

10

10 per session - Virtual OK - Posted Jun 03, 2017

After you confirm that you want to use my services, we can talk about the book/text you would like me to read from for 30 minutes. Don't worry—I can keep track of the time too, so all you have to worry about is relaxing. I am also available for double-sessions (60 minutes of reading aloud) if you book two of this service at once! :D

I have many books and short stories available that I can recommend. If you choose this service multiple times, we can pick up where we last left off in the story. I also have some children's books if you (or your kids!) would like a light, happy story. Or, if you'd rather, I would also be open for you to send me a PDF or other electronic document for me to read for you, so long as I can pre-approve it first. (Honestly, I just don't want to embarrass myself in case you want me to read something with some craaaaazy hard-to-pronounce stuff in it, but that's normally not an issue for me.)

I am available to perform this service over Skype or phone. I can also just email a recording if that's what you would prefer. :]

Training & Qualifications

Reading aloud has been one of my favorite activities since I was a child. Sometimes, listening to audiobooks is the only way I get to "read" with my busy schedule nowadays. Reading aloud is also a great way to relax and get lost in really "listening" to a story. I have practice reading aloud with lots of kids as well as with my students.

I can do voices with characters and make sure I clearly enunciate (as best I can) any PDF documents you might want me to read aloud to you in order to save you the time it takes you to sit down and read it. Why not allow yourself to multitask?

Bonus: If you don't know what a word means, I'd be happy to pause and tell you as well. (And if I am unfamiliar with the term too, we can always look it up together!)

If your English isn't great, this can be a great way to support your ESL learning. :]

Children can also use reading aloud as a great educational tool—I was able to read by three-years-old just from my family reading aloud to me as often as they did!

Availability & Preferences

I am usually free in the evenings/at night on weekdays and free during the day on weekends. Lately, I've been pretty flexible though, so just hit me up!

Trading Preference: I’m flexible, just hit me up!

About Abby Smith

I want to work for the welfare and happiness of others. Whether I work in education, publishing, non-profit, retail, or any other kind of career, I want to use my skills to benefit my community and th...e world at large. Currently, I'm a graduate student on track to earn my MFA in Creative Writing, as well as a certificate in Women's and Gender Studies. I frequently switch between living at home in Nashville and living in Memphis for school and my tutoring job. I have already completed two years of grad school, where I gained a year of experience as an instructor at the collegiate level. I also worked as an Online Editor for a year for a super cool literary journal called The Pinch. I also served as the Department of English's Social Media Graduate Assistant for the 2015-2016 academic year. In my work as a tutor, I typically work with kids ranging from 5 to 19. With younger kids, I usually work on developing their literacy through the Wilson Reading System, which is designed especially to help people with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. I also help older students stay on top of their studies, helping them with homework and reading comprehension. My "specialties" are essay writing (at all levels) and ACT Test Prep for English, Reading, and Writing. Although I have more older (middle/high school) than younger students at the moment, I really love children, babies especially. I have many hours of experience volunteering at a NICU in a Nashville hospital, and I never get tired of babysitting. Beyond that, I love cartoons, naps, and sweets. My most common fashion aesthetic lately seems to be "comfy and colorful." I just got an Audible account in March and have been obsesssed ever since. I also love listening to podcasts such as "Welcome to Night Vale" and "The Black Tapes." I'm almost caught up with "Tanis" as well if anyone wants to talk about what's happening now! ;Dshow more
