If my artwork has any deep meaning, I am blissfully unaware. I show up to the paper, canvas or journal. I gather my overflowing basket of collage fodder, favorite mark making tools, tubes of paint, brushes, glue and scissors. Music quickly follows. Being a naturally overstimulated person, I rarely have an end result in mind. What shows up on the blank page is very often surprising to me. I use whatever materials are immediately in front of me. You won’t find me on a frantic search for that perfect scrap of red paper.

I work at break neck speed, short spurts and with a fair (okay, high) degree of artistic anxiety. I will walk away and then come back to the piece many times to tease out what the next step might be. It’s often a dance between “grab and go” and “hurry up and wait.” With this process, I feel physically and emotionally connected to each piece as I create.
