About Travis Kern

I am an Chinese Medicine student originally from New Orleans and now living in the pacific NW. Before going back to school I was a high school French and English teacher (6 years) and before that a pr...ofessional chef (2 years). I have a lot of handyman skills and experience in property management and repair. I like to think of myself as a contemporary renaissance man with a deep appreciation for the natural world and sustainable living and participating in something like Simbi will hopefully bring me closer to participating in a modern, urban village. Try to imagine that you knew even 1/8 of the people who lived within ten blocks of your house. Imagine how many resources we are redundantly expending trying to be islands of independence instead of interconnected archipelagos. And while I want a world where people just show up for a visit without a text or call, I also know that we have grown accustomed to our isolation and it will take time to reacclimate to a world that really is connected, not just virtually connected. Simbi is my foray into using technology to actually link us together instead of separating us into facebook-browsing automatons on the subway. Here's to the subtlest of revolutions my friends! To sharing what we have all fought so hard to learn and to acquire so that we can all get a little more with what we have!
