Dog Sitting for a sweet old dog
My partner and I travel a lot and we have an elderly dog who often needs care while we are away. He's pretty easy if you have the right set-up, so this is what we look for in an ideal situation:
1) Maybe you or your housemate work from home? Guacamole sleeps a lot of the day, but he does like to be around people. That way he can have ample bathroom breaks.
2) If you've got access to a well-fenced back yard and can leave the door open, Guacamole loves to let himself in and out to alternate sleeping in the sun and in the shade.
3) He is a terrier and loves to sniff and wander, so your yard should be secure, otherwise he will find a way out! He doesn't move too fast these days but he can be stealthy, so you won't even know that he's gone.....
4) Guacamole gets along with dogs and cats, but he is old and needs his alone time when he gets tired (i.e. "get that dumb puppy out of my face, please"). He needs to be separated from other dogs when he eats food or treats, because he can be food aggressive, but other than that, he's a perfect gentleman around other pets.
He doesn't take any medications and doesn't usually do super long walks, so he's actually pretty low maintenance. He's very sweet and personable, loves attention and playing with toys, but he is totally chill when you tell him to go to bed.
