Logo for my Educational non-profit

40 for fulfilling my request - Virtual OK - Posted Jun 19, 2017

Hello!

Here's the skinny: I made a nonprofit, dunno how to run business, but still need to think about marketing and stuff (I just wanted to teach kids IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK).

What's the logo for?
It's called Firefly, aimed currently toward 6-14 year olds (will expand to all kid ages eventually). I want to develop a program of after-school clubs in disadvantaged neighborhoods to do cool things from dance to robotics to synthetic biology! these kids should engage and explore unique things without the pressure of grades/job. for now, i'll start with LEGO robotics (or Synthetic Biology depending on what contacts I make).

What kinda look?
Well, I'm not very good at thinking about that stuff. Here's a list of things I would like and also not like in the logo:

~Not super formal, but also not kiddish. (in the same vein, I was originally thinking of naming this org something like "Gummyworm" or something! But it's important to note that most interactions at the business level will be with schools and institutions, even though the primary goal is to engage kids).

~Not super minimalist. I like details and colors and depth. This simbi post was pretty cool, even if it's not exactly what I would like https://simbi.com/amelia-nakanishi/mail-you-a-beetle-print

~I kinda like the idea of something techy, just because Raspberry Pi was my inspiration for all of this. One of my friends made a sketch with an actual lightbulb for the fly's butt (you don't have to do that obviously).

Price is negotiable.

Shamseen was incredibly patient with my lack of coding/webdev lingo and background knowledge. Her intelligent questions helped me to formulate exactly... what I wanted from the project. I look forward to working more with Shamseen. show more

About Shamseen Rahman

Heyooo I'm currently studying biomedical engineering at Boston University. Heh, I actually left my job as a software engineer to follow my interests. I've founded Firefly, a totally infant nonp...rofit organization working to develop a program of after-school clubs in disadvantaged neighborhoods to do cool things from dance to robotics to synthetic biology! But I have 0 idea how to run a business--let a lone a non-profit--so I came here to get some help with that ===== I'm pretty good with helping organize workflow for a team or project, it's what I've done as an engineer and as an intern for an Educational Development institution in Bangladesh. I've also acted as a Business Analyst and lead for adding a feature to software I was hired to work on. ===== I've just recently left my position as a software engineer. I still want to keep on with mobile and software development but more on my own pace, compared to a 9-5 job. Ya feel? I have professional experience with building websites and enterprise-level business-facing software/web apps. The GUI was in AngularJS, server and business logic in C# and ASP.NET, and a little bit of database design/upkeep with NoSQL. I was also part Business Analyst (cross-functional team) and sat with the clients to get the requirements and lead the addition of a new feature (but also code some parts because.. well my job description.) ===== As for mobile app development, I've done them for school projects and whatnot. I've only used the Xamarin.Forms framework (self-taught), which lets you build out Android, iOS, and Windows apps all at once. So I code it in C# and the designs in XAML, and the framework compiles and renders into that operating system's native platforms! If you want to read up on it: https://www.xamarin.com/forms https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/xamarin-forms/#Is_Xamarin.Forms_right_for_your_project ===== Hobbies: ANIMALS! Love em :) Staying tight with all my family all the time Rock climbing, kayaking, hiking (I'm still super slow) Training for a triathlon (not gonna join one any time soon, haha) Programming fun lil projects Playing violin Watching Bob's Burgers and Gotham and Steven Universe Nuanced debates/discussions with people with which I agree and/or disagree Consuming stories (in any form: novels, comics, cartoons, movies, oral storytelling, plays) Beer Finding cool underground artsy things everywhere I live/visit Nostalgia gaming (N64, Gamecube, Gameboy) Live performances (bands, theatre, dance, orchestra - like ANYTHING)show more
