Tui Na Medical Massage

50

50 per session - - Posted Jun 05, 2017

I will give a 45 minute Tui Na medical massage along with a brief diagnostic intake. Tui Na is a form of therapeutic massage that has been used in China for over 2000 years. It makes use of compression and manipulation techniques along energetic channels of the body to harmonize circulation in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues.

Tui Na is part of a rich tradition of East Asian medicine, where it works in harmony with acupuncture and herbs. It is a complete therapeutic system, and is a great option for those who may be uncomfortable with acupuncture needles. The benefit of Tui Na is that the techniques and therapeutic strategies are chosen specifically for each patient – an initial intake and diagnostic analysis very similar to those used for acupuncture and herbal medicine give the Tui Na practitioner a clear insight into not only the symptoms, but their root causes. Tui Na allows the practitioner to work both on both the “roots and branches” simultaneously, all through massage and acupressure. Tui Na makes use of pressure at specific points on the body, along with more conventional massage techniques, for muscle pain, joint pain, stress, and anxiety. The principal strategy in Tui Na is to move what has become stagnant. The axiomatic statement is “where there is pain, there is obstruction”, and the goal of the Tui Na practitioner is to help move what is “stuck.”

Training & Qualifications

I have a lifelong passion for traditional medicine, martial arts, and meditative disciplines. I have lived in Gainesville, FL since 2000, working as a web and application developer, and as a local small business owner and consultant. In 2012 I earned a Masters of Arts from the Latin American Studies program at the University of Florida focusing on ritual and medicine in Peru and Ecuador. However, as much as I deeply loved the people I met and the experiences I had been a part of in the Amazon, I knew that what I found most meaningful for me personally was an opportunity to actually help real people, day to day, with traditional forms of medicine, beyond a strictly academic study. Having spent years as an amateur reader of Chinese medical theories along with martial arts study, I was excited to realize that I had the opportunity to study this form of traditional medicine right here in Gainesville. In 2016 I earned my Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Dragon Rises College, completing what had truly been a decade-long dream of being able to work professionally in a healing tradition.
