Ask a (US) Southerner!
3
Got a question about Southern US slang or habits? I will demystify things for y'all!
Shoot me a question, and I will try to explain why things are, they way they are (or are stereotyped as being), in the South.
- What on earth does "y'all've" mean?
- What do you mean Flordia isn't in The South?
- Why can't Southerns just get to the POINT in a conversation?!
- Someone said "bless your heart" and I'm not sure if that was friendly or if I was being cursed..?
- Why do Southerners have different accents?
- Does everyone listen to Country Music?
- Seriously, why on earth do some people still use the Confedarate flag? (I personally don't like it but I can speak to what other Southerns are thinking).
- These are just samples! Don't hesitate to ask if you have something else plaguing your mind.
Training & Qualifications
I grew up in Nashville, attended college in Spartanburg, SC, and have lived/worked in the South Carolina lowcountry, Savannah, GA, and the sprawling area of bedroom communities surrounding Atlanta. I also have many self-described "Yankee" friends with whom I have discussed the differences between the habits of people here in The South vs. other areas of the US. Hopefully I can be of some assistance in puzzling out our verbal tics and obsession with syrup-like iced tea.
