Develop Android/React for nonprofit
5
We built a non-profit app that helps refugees communicate across language barriers thanks to volunteer interpreters. We need your help to take the project forward.
GetAcross is an app that helps refugees freely communicate across language barriers with the help of volunteer interpreters. GetAcross helps refugees, aid workers, medics, officials and volunteers on the ground, to communicate thanks to over-the-phone interpreters and bilingual volunteers. See details on http://GetAcross.org
GetAcross is a small non-profit initiative. We launched an iPhone app for refugees in December 2015 and currently has hundreds of interpreters signed up.
We are now looking for an Android or React Native developer to bring the app to the Android platform on a volunteer basis, so this project can reach its full potential. We already have the back-end API, the voice communications SDK, and the iPhone app as a sample implementation to get your started, although ideally you’d make the project your own, building on that and improving and adding new functionality to this app long term.

This is a location-independent volunteer gig (you can work on the codebase from anywhere in the world, which will be open-sourced). If you want to come to Greece and gain some perspective on the situation of refugees on the ground here, and to meet aid workers and refugees who will be using GetAcross, we can host you in Athens for a few days.
