About Matthew E. Mueller, M.A., CRC
I prepare degree-seeking students for post-graduation by facilitating skill development and increasing student engagement of self and community. I am a person- and culture-centered counselor in higher... education, specifically focused on transition populations, i.e. first-year students and graduating-year students. College & University is framed as a process of development of personal and professional skills, which I highlight early on. My model focuses on executive functioning development for the purposes of academic, professional, and personal growth and success. This success is operationalized as self-awareness through increased career maturity. I actively seek to provide support to students, and student organizations, from historically underrepresented backgrounds. I developed and manage Vassar College's Student Accessibility Advocate peer mentoring program and am the campus coordinator the Workforce Recruitment Program. I am personally and professionally committed to social justice and anti-racism and -ableism, along with this intersection. My research and scholarship illuminate intersections of culture and justice, especially with social and racial identity development. Other interests include: - Student Success - Social Model of Disability - School to Work Transition - Intersection of Race, Gender, and Disability - Community Engagement for the purposes of Racial Identity Development I have extensive experience with millennials of various racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and ability backgrounds in personal and career counseling/coaching. I am fueled by the theory that equity in society manifests, in part, as the level of participation in education, employment, and the community. With increased multicultural participation, justice increases; this creates an inclusive society. show more
