Oct 31, 2019Maria contacted me for help with her website after two other people had worked on it. The request was for some help here and there, a few touch ups. W...hat I found when I went in was a set of plugins a theme and a page builder adding a lot of scripts. I believe this was done for Maria, and she was not really aware of this.
After some time understanding the site, I was able to make some headway, but not much. What I ended up suggesting is that the programmer gets in there first, and lays the solid foundation, then other people can get in there and add a few plugins here and there, ideally, programmer approved. This is what my integrated bundle is for.
I am very sorry I could not help her out more, but what happens is that a "snake's nest" is built that has to be understood by someone making the fixes. Even if they seem minor, they can be caused by a lot of convoluted code.
The solution I have been able to develop in the meantime starts with < 200 kB of code (vs 20 MB + for WordPress, plus themes and plugins) and it allows the site owner to begin writing content using a Word Processor, something many are familiar with. I do not have as of now a "1 button" fix for a convoluted site, no matter how good it looks on the surface.
It is possible to take a site built with a page builder and and complex plugins and fix it, but it requires an understanding of this going in. I did not want to suggest this right away, as I simply did not understand the problem then.
My recommendation for new sites is to do "due diligence" on them, and ask careful "business questions" about WordPress, if a business is going to be based on it. There are alternatives. Concrete5 is one, but it takes a commitment and a programmer experienced with it to make it happen.
I am sorry I could not do more, but we tried.
