Parenting with a Disability
5
If you are a parent living with a disability, I can relate. I'm a mother, and I have cerebral palsy. Maybe you just need to talk with someone who understands the unique challenges those of us with disabilities face in being parents. I can be there for you. I can share my personal experiences and offer solutions that have worked for me and my family. Are you someone living with a disability who is unsure about parenthood? You may find it useful to talk with me about your fears and uncertainty. I have been there, and my family is thriving. I can offer specific suggestions of what has worked for me in caring for my son, such as crib modification, finding a supportive OBGYN or pediatrician, finding resources online and in books, lifting and carrying children, feeding, changing, and other aspects of daily childcare. I can also give advice on how to deal with behavior challenges and how to talk to kids about disability.
Training & Qualifications
I am a mother to a three and a half year old boy. I have cerebral palsy. I either crawl, or use an electric scooter to get around. I am able to care for my child independently, and I understand the stigmas that disabled parents often face in their child-rearing journeys. I am also pursuing a degree in the field of early childhood education, so I have a useful knowledge base in this area.
Availability & Preferences
My availability for this is pretty flexible. I'm happy to chat via email or Skype, depending on what suits you.
