Custom Poems

25 per unit - Virtual OK - Posted Mar 22, 2017

I will write a 10 to 20 line poem (quite possibly a sonnet) based on an occasion, person or cause you want to celebrate. I will need to ask you a couple questions to gain material and inspiration for the poem. I've been writing fiction, essays and poetry over the past 13 years on an almost daily basis, but I love poetry above all for its unique flexibility of thought, emotion and occasion. (I mean I'm on Simbi after all.) I love language and people, so writing a custom poem brings it all together. You can read more about me on my website: or if you look me up on Instagram you can read some of my poetry. ((The poems I write are for you to share with family and friends, but I still hold copyright and reserve the write to publish them in book form.))

Training & Qualifications

I've written two full books of poetry with Anvil Press and I've written poetry on the spot at fundraisers (Instruments for Change), public events (Vancouver Farmers Markets) and a BC Film industry party (Hornby Island). I have an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC.

Creative Writing Advice

About Kevin Spenst

I'm a longtime Vancouverite interested in living creativity on a professional and personal level. I've taught English as a Second Language for over twenty years, but alongside that I've grown as an ar...tist through theater, film, and, over the past thirteen years, the literary arts. I love reading, cycling, doodling and writing. Here's my writing bio: Kevin Spenst, a Pushcart Poetry nominee, is the author of Ignite, Jabbering with Bing Bong, (both with Anvil Press), and over a dozen chapbooks including Pray Goodbye (the Alfred Gustav Press), Ward Notes (the serif of nottingham), and Flip Flop Faces and Unexpurgated Lives (JackPine Press). His work has won the Lush Triumphant Award for Poetry, been nominated for both the Alfred G. Bailey Prize and the Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry, and has appeared in dozens of publications including Prairie Fire, CV2, the Rusty Toque, BafterC, Lemon Hound, Poetry is Dead, and the anthology Best Canadian Poetry 2014. show more
