About Janelle Nichols, MPH

I have loved everything health since I was a kid trying to figure out if the pipe in our backyard at home was polluting our water. I am your pesky nutrition-obsessed friend who can't help but let you ...know when you are about to ingest some harmful preservatives. I make diet and fitness plans for my friends as a hobby and I am always on the lookout for a new vegan restaurant. During high school and the beginning of my undergraduate career I began seeing long-time friends overdose on drugs and diabetes and heart disease debilitate several members of my family. After experiencing all of that, public health became my passion. Since then I have dedicated myself to making communities healthier. A few ways I have begun to do this are by helping to manage free clinics, analyzing program impacts, and developing a strategic plan for patient retention at a federally qualified health center based on best practices. I recently began volunteering with an organization that serves those involved in sexual exchange and injection drug use by focusing on harm reduction. Once I realized the significant role communications can play in improving healthy behaviors, I began developing my communications skills, focusing on behavior change communications. Most recently I enrolled in a front-end web development course with the aim of fusing health communications with technology.show more
