45-Minute Knitting Lesson
25
I will teach you knitting one-on-one from my home. Some lessons will begin a project that you can finish at home, or you can come back and continue working along with me.
Pick your lesson:
-Intro: Learn about fiber types, yarn types, and fabric construction. Get a brief overview of the history of knitting and its many uses. Meet the tools that knitters use. And learn the basic knit stitch, on which all knitting is based. We'll begin a garter stitch washcloth.
-Finishing: Learn how to start and end a project. We'll learn basic cast-on and bind-off techniques and will practice seaming, joining two pieces of knitting together along their length.
-Shaping: We'll work on left-leaning and right-leaning decreases, increases, and how to read patterns and charts. We'll start an openwork scarf.
-Troubleshooting: How to identify your mistakes and correct them. Dropped stitches, twisted stitches, yarn overs, k2tog stitches, and short rows will be covered. I'll show you what these mistakes look like, why they create a problem, and how to fix them. I'll also show you when and why these techniques are used deliberately in more advanced knitting.
-Knitting in the Round: Learn to use double-pointed needles. We'll start a hexagonal swatch that can be a washcloth or the first segment of a baby blanket.
You will need to provide your own yarn and needles. If you aren't already a knitter, I'll give you recommendations for the yarn and needles.
Training & Qualifications
I am a self-taught knitter who enjoys creating small, complex projects. I'm a process knitter--while I enjoy the beauty of a well-constructed finished object, my joy in knitting comes from the process.
