Car not running right? Won't start? Want to know whats wrong with it before you take it to a shop- or, determine if it is something you can fix yourself?
Maybe it's making an perplexing noise (or outright atrocious noise!) when you go around left hand corners- but only while accelerating... ?
I will help figure out what is not working right. I will look for the problem by asking you specific questions about what your car is doing or not doing:
I will listen for problems, test driving the vehicle if possible, and check components that may be failing.
With vehicles made after 1996 I can run a computer diagnostic scan in addition the above. I'm a little more old fashioned in my diagnosis, relying less on my scan tool and more on my eyes and ears. I work with any make or model vehicle, and will look over vehicles from any year, although I have the most experience working with cars from older years, 2000 back through the 70's.
Training & Qualifications
Through years of working on my own vehicles I've learned to figure out whats wrong to be able to fix it. It's a puzzle of sorts. Originally I learned from my Dad, who directed me through replacing the transmission in my first car, a Jeep CJ that was 14 years older than I am. In the 15 years since then I have done troubleshooting and repairs on many different cars and developed an understanding of how their systems work. Some times the solution will totally elude me, and the car will remain nonworking; or it will require large repairs; but often the simplest answer is the correct one, sometimes the car can even be fixed on the spot.
