Become a Baseball Umpire

100

100 per hour - Virtual OK - Posted Aug 16, 2017

I can turn someone who knows nothing about the game of baseball into a college level baseball official.
Why you should want to become an umpire: Officiating, besides being paid tremendously well (~$20/hour for middle school baseball) and getting to make your own schedule; it is an amazing character building experience. Plus umpires are in high demand across the county. Baseball season is really long as well you can expect to be able to work baseball games from April-October (don't forget fall-ball!)
Something Brief about doing this virtually before I explain further:
This is an in person listing, however I can perform this service virtually, but in order to do that you would need to use a Logmein type service while we skype, so I can control your computer to pull up different teaching materials so you can just sit back and watch. Otherwise I can still perform my services virtually that doesn't involve me controlling your computer (You would use a screen sharing service so I can see what you see), but it will be more expensive because if I can't control what's on your computer, then it will take much longer.
If you don't know anything about baseball, then we will start by helping you to understand the basic rules. Once you understand how baseball works (or if you already do), we can then begin to learn about officiating.
What to expect: around 2-4 hours (if in person) of classroom time (You will receive a baseball officiating manual that I will teach you from, so you can alway go back and refresh your memory). Followed by 2-4 hours of on field training where we will go to a public field and I will demonstrate all the proper mechanics, and help you step-by-step. At this point you would have enough training to work sub-varsity high school baseball, which generally pay around $50/game. If you live in the area, I can immediately get you on the field training with me in real games as long as baseball is in season, and right now its in season!
If you do any amount of training with me I will make myself available as a resource via email for free. That way if you ever need a quick umpiring question answered, I'll be there.

Training & Qualifications

This is my 11th season as a baseball official (All of those seasons being at least kid pitch level or higher). The past 5 years I have been registered in various states to work varsity high school baseball. The Highest level of Baseball I have personally officiated is NAIA college ball.

About Cody Hearn

Hello everyone! My friends, family, ACT scores, college GPA, hospital administered neuropsych + IQ testing, and even strangers tell me that I'm gifted. But I've never felt gifted. Like I know I'm inte...lligent, because there is proof and evidence, but I've always felt it more a curse than a gift. I'm good at so many different things it ends up tearing me up inside. 😔 I want to choose a path for my life, but with each passing day comes more anxiety that I'm running out of time to choose a path. Not to mention the path that sounds the most appealing to me changes on a daily basis. The only real constant has been science. I have the curiosity of a child. I'm formally educated in biochemistry & behavioral neuroscience from KU. But I'm informally educated in every field of science through at very least the equivalent to 200 level college science courses.show more
